Canam Structures built the retractable roof of the new Marlins Park, the current home of the Miami Marlins. The capacity of the baseball stadium is 36,750 seat . The retractable roof, which is composed of three sections, encloses over 7,000 tons of steel components (by comparison, the Eiffel Tower’s structural frame weighs 7,300 tons).
The longest trusses are 560 ft. (171 m) long by 45 ft. (14 m) deep. The biggest challenge of the project consisted in enabling the massive roof sections to maneuver in perfect sync at a speed of 39 ft. (11.8 m) per minute in order to open or close in under 15 minutes.
